Meet Dr. Joseph Burke — Your Seaford Podiatrist
Dr. Joseph Burke’s interest in podiatry began through his experience as a track athlete at Rutgers University. Requiring foot treatment himself, he realized his passion for the profession. Upon completing a double major in biology and psychology at Rutgers, he entered the New York College of Podiatric Medicine, graduating magna cum laude in 1985, before completing a surgical/medical residency at Peninsula Hospital Center in New York.
Dr. Burke is board certified in two podiatric specialties and is a fellow of both The American Academy of Foot Surgeons and The American Academy of Foot Orthopedists and Primary Podiatric Medicine. He is a diplomat of The American Board of Podiatric Surgery and the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine.
Dr. Burke specializes in the biomechanics of the foot, including custom orthotics therapy and surgical correction of foot deformities. He has advanced training in Shockwave Therapy for heel pain and Endoscopic Plantar Fasciotomy using micro cameras. His office is one of the first on Long Island to use Noveon Laser Therapy in the treatment of fungal toenails.
Dr. Burke is a member in good standing at North Shore at Syosset Hospital Center and St. Joseph Hospital, and is associated with the Nassau County Podiatric Medical Association. Cherrywood Foot Care has been voted the best podiatrist on Long Island for 16 consecutive years.
What We Offer
Podiatry Services Near Seaford, NY
At Cherrywood Foot Care, our Seaford podiatrist treats a wide range of foot and ankle conditions using the most advanced technologies available:
Conditions We Treat
Common Foot Conditions Treated Near Seaford
Bunions
A bunion is a bony bump that forms at the base of the big toe, caused by wearing tight shoes or genetic foot structure. Our Seaford podiatrist offers both conservative treatment options and bunion surgery for more severe cases.
Plantar Fasciitis & Heel Pain
Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain, caused by inflammation of the plantar fascia. Symptoms include stabbing heel pain, especially in the morning. We offer shockwave therapy, custom orthotics, and other proven treatments. Heel pain can also result from heel spurs, Achilles tendinitis, or stress fractures — our team will perform a thorough evaluation to identify the exact cause.
Ingrown Toenails
Ingrown toenails occur when the nail grows into the surrounding skin, causing pain, redness, swelling, and sometimes infection. Our Seaford podiatrist provides both conservative care and minor surgical procedures for lasting relief.
Fungal Toenails
Toenail fungus causes nails to become discolored, thickened, and brittle. Cherrywood Foot Care is one of the first offices on Long Island to offer Noveon Laser Therapy for fungal toenails — a safe, effective, no-downtime treatment. We also offer KeryFlex Nail Restoration, an in-office cosmetic nail reconstruction that restores the natural appearance of damaged or fungal nails while the real nail grows underneath.
Diabetic Foot Care
Patients with diabetes require specialized foot care to prevent serious complications including infections, ulcers, and in severe cases, amputation. Our team provides comprehensive diabetic foot care including regular examinations, wound care, and custom orthotics.
Neuropathy & Burning Feet
Peripheral neuropathy causes numbness, tingling, and burning sensations in the feet and lower legs, most commonly as a complication of diabetes. Early treatment is critical — ignoring symptoms can lead to serious complications. Our team works closely with patients and their physicians to properly diagnose and manage neuropathy through footwear modifications, medications, topical treatments, and regular podiatric monitoring.
Custom Orthotics
Many foot conditions are caused by improper alignment or imbalance in foot function. Custom orthotics correct these issues and significantly reduce pain. Unlike over-the-counter inserts, custom orthotics are created after a detailed examination of your feet and walking mechanics. Signs you may need orthotics include sharp heel pain, flat feet, high arches, balance issues, uneven shoe wear, and foot complications related to diabetes.
Flat Feet
Flat feet, or fallen arches, can cause pain in the feet, ankles, knees, and lower back. Our podiatrist can evaluate your gait and foot structure and recommend custom orthotics or physical therapy to correct overpronation and relieve pain throughout the lower body.
Hammertoes
Hammertoes occur when the middle joint of a toe bends abnormally downward, often caused by muscle imbalance or ill-fitting footwear. We offer both non-surgical and surgical treatment options depending on severity.
Warts
Plantar warts are hard, grainy growths on the bottom of the foot caused by a viral infection. We offer cryotherapy using liquid nitrogen — a quick, in-office procedure with minimal recovery time — as well as medicated ointments and laser removal for stubborn cases.
Athlete’s Foot
Athlete’s foot is a fungal infection causing itching, burning, and scaly rashes between the toes and on the sole of the foot. Our Seaford podiatrist can diagnose the severity of your infection and recommend the most effective topical or oral antifungal treatment.
Neuromas
A neuroma, or pinched nerve, causes burning, tingling, or numbness between the toes and in the ball of the foot. Dr. Burke treats neuromas using padding and taping, anti-inflammatory medications, custom orthotics, and if necessary, surgical options including cortisone injections or nerve decompression.
