Pedicure Safety for Spring & Summer

Sandal weather is almost here, which means it’s a popular time for pedicures. Pedicures can be a great way to keep your feet looking and feeling great, but there are times when pedicures can be more harmful than helpful. Depending on the health practices of a nail salon or yourself, a pedicure can result in fungal nails, ingrown toenails, or skin infections on your foot. Our team at Cherrywood Foot Care would like to share some pedicure safety tips to keep your feet safe this season! Continue reading to learn more!

Pedicure Safety for Warm Weather

Regular pedicures are beneficial to your foot health because they keep your feet looking their best, trim your nails, help control calluses, and moisturize your skin. Whether you do your pedicures at home or at the nail salon, there are certain things you should do to keep your feet healthy and feeling their best. Here are some pedicure safety tips from our podiatrists at Cherrywood Foot Care:

  • Bring your own pedicure tools – If you’re headed to the nail salon, you can bring your own nail polish and pedicure tools to the salon. Fungus can quickly get into your nails and skin if the salon does not follow proper hygiene practices. By using your own equipment, you can avoid unwanted infections.
  • Trim nails carefully – Whether you’re cutting your own nails or having them done by a specialist, make sure your nails are trimmed straight across to avoid painful ingrown toenails.
  • Avoid covering discolored nails – If you have discolored nails, you may be tempted to cover them with nail polish. However, this can worsen their appearance and lock out moisture. Discolored toenails may indicate fungus that requires medical treatment, so it’s important to discuss this issue with your podiatrist.
