Healthy Feet During The Winter

When it comes to preparing for winter you’re probably thinking about stocking up on the warmest clothes, snow removal supplies, and home heat maintenance.  And while that’s a great list, there’s one more question you should pose:  Am I taking proper care of my feet?

Often overlooked, keeping your feet healthy in the winter is extremely important to your health. Exposed to harsh conditions such as frigid temperatures, ice, sleet, and snow- the winter weather can create havoc on your feet.  At risk of developing eczema, dried skin, and even frostbite- the consequences can be impactful and even severe.

Here at Cherrywood Foot Care, our dedicated and experienced staff is committed to keep our customers informed and provide them the best possible service.

Here are three ways to keep your feet healthy this winter:

Shoe lovers rejoice! It’s recommended to wear multiple pairs of shoes throughout the week in order to “air them” out and not let them become too damp. Make sure your shoes fit comfortably, aren’t too tight, and wearing warm, thick socks helps. Choose wool and cotton as they offer great warmth and protection against the harsh cold. Another option is purchasing a pair of orthotic slippers as they offer great support and will keep your feet nice and warm.

  • Moisturize Your Skin

Overall skin care is extremely important in the cold, winter months. Many podiatrists recommend soaking and moisturizing your feet daily as the winter air dries out your skin. Receiving a pedicure is also another great option. This removes dead skin and keeps your feet moisturized.

  • Flexibility is Key

Walking barefoot while at home is a great way to make sure your feet stay loose and flexible. This helps your foot stabilize as well as other parts of your feet. Massaging your toes and performing a variety of stretches for your legs will also help make sure your feet are nice and limber. This will also prevent any aches, pains or stiffness.

Maintaining your foot health is critical during these harsh winter months. If you have any specific questions, contact us here at Cherrywood Foot Care today!
