15 Apr Flip-Flops And Foot Pain
With the days getting warmer and longer each passing week, you can soon expect to see an increase in the number of people wearing flip-flops. While these shoes can be great for adding a bit of flair to an outfit, you must make sure you do not wear them too often. Doing so may lead to increased amounts of foot pain. To help our patients take better care of their feet, the staff here at Cherrywood Foot Care would like to share information with you on when wearing flip-flops can be beneficial, and when it can cause problems.
When To Wear Flip-Flops
Although flip-flops leave much of your feet exposed, they can be your best option in certain situations. Walking barefoot through warm, damp areas increases the likelihood of developing a foot fungus. To help prevent this from happening, wearing flip-flops can be a great option. Some examples of locations where they can be worn include:
- The beach.
- Poolside areas.
- Public showers.
Why They Are Problematic
Wearing flip-flops in moderation can greatly reduce the potential negative impacts on your feet. However, constantly wearing them may lead to problems. If you begin to experience foot pain, we recommend that you cut back on the length of time you wear them or even trade them in for a more supportive sandal. Flip-flops can be problematic for your feet as they:
- Offer little to no ankle or arch support.
- Promote friction that can cause blisters and bunions to occur.
- Increase the chances of developing conditions such as Achilles tendonitis and plantar fasciitis.
- Make you more prone to slips, falls, and can lead to injuries.
