It’s finally summer! But with the enjoyable sun and heat also comes the increased risk of foot problems. Poor choices in footwear, bare feet, and increased temperatures are not a good combination. At Cherrywood Foot Care, we treat a variety of different foot conditions that occur in the summer months. Our specialists are licensed to help you and address your foot problems.
Swollen Feet
One common summer foot problem includes the swelling of the feet. Hot weather and humidity can take a toll on your feet by increasing swelling. Swollen feet can result in discomfort or even pain. To avoid swollen feet in the summer, it is recommended to avoid salty foods, get more exercise to increase blood flow, or even do cold foot soaks.
Sunburnt Feet
Another foot problem that can occur during the summer is sunburnt feet. To prevent getting a sunburn on your feet, you should apply sunscreen multiple times a day. It is generally recommended to reapply sunscreen every two hours, or after swimming or sweating. If you do end up getting sunburnt feet, apply a cold compress and aloe vera cream to decrease pain and inflammation.
Foot Infections
Foot infections are unfortunately common, but present themselves even more in the summer. Foot infections are caused by a fungus, such as athlete’s foot. It is advised to avoid foot infections by wearing shoes to avoid exposure and keeping moisture away from the feet.
Foot Pain
There is a boost in complaints of foot pain during the summer months, even though it can happen at any time of the year. Pain can be caused by unsupportive footwear, such as flip flops or sandals, or injury from the increased exposure of your feet. To avoid foot pain, you should wear protective, well-fitted shoes and avoid walking around barefoot.
