Maintaining Healthy Feet for Lacrosse Players

As a lacrosse player, you try to do all you can to best prepare yourself for the field. Keeping up with your training and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is essential, but have you thought about your foot health? At Cherrywood Foot Care, we prioritize our patient’s foot health. We are here to provide you with some foot care tips to help maximize your athletic performance and keep your feet healthy.

Lacrosse Injuries

As an athlete, you may tend to only think about your feet when they hurt. It’s easy to take your foot health for granted when you rely on them so much. Failing to be proactive about your foot health can be the difference between playing this season or sitting on the sidelines. Lacrosse can be demanding on your feet due to the intense gameplay. It requires a lot of sudden stops, turning, and landing on your feet. This can place significant stress on your feet. Some of the foot and ankle injuries that can sideline you during lacrosse season may include:

  • Plantar fasciitis.
  • Stress fractures.
  • Ankle fractures and sprains.
  • Turf toe.
  • Achilles tendonitis.

Foot Health for Lacrosse Players

While some injuries are unavoidable, there are several steps you can take to be proactive about your foot health. Knowing when to stop is one of the most important tips that we can give to you. Overuse is the number one cause of foot injuries. Ease back into your training slowly. If you’re in the middle of the season, stop training when you’re feeling pain. Listen to your body and take it easy to avoid sitting out the rest of the season. We also recommend including your feet and ankles in your warm-ups.

Another important aspect of foot health is practicing good foot hygiene. Keep your feet clean and dry to avoid foot fungus. Changing your socks often or wearing moisture-wicking socks can also be helpful if you sweat a lot. The final and most important way you can maintain your foot health is to wear proper fitting, sports-specific shoes and change them out when they become too worn. Wearing the appropriate gear can make all the difference in your health and gameplay.
