Men’s Foot Problems

A large percentage of the population deals with a foot condition or injury, and often, this number is higher for men who may not care for their feet as routinely as women do. In addition to this, certain foot conditions tend to be more common in males than in females. While these conditions are not isolated to men alone, here are some common men’s foot problems:

  • Plantar Fasciitis – Plantar fasciitis is a condition caused by the inflammation of the plantar fascia underneath your foot. Many athletes and runners develop this condition from poor technique, improper footwear, and overuse.
  • Gout – Gout is a type of inflammatory arthritis that develops in the big toe due to increased levels of uric acid in the body. Uric acid can build up if you have poor exercise habits, drink a lot of alcohol, or eat a lot of red meat.
  • Athlete’s Foot – Athlete’s foot is a fungal infection on the foot or between the toes. It can be more common in men because they might not have a regular foot hygiene routine. Community locker rooms and showers are places where potential fungal infections can occur.
  • Ingrown Toenails – Unfortunately, many men do not prioritize their foot care and health, which can contribute to ingrown toenails. Ingrown toenails can arise when the nail grows back at an odd angle and digs into the skin. They can also be a result of trauma and improper athletic footwear.

Both men and women need to practice good foot hygiene and care. Most of these foot problems can be prevented or treated with a visit to a podiatrist at Cherrywood Foot Care. Our podiatrists will evaluate your condition and help create a foot care routine that keeps your feet looking and feeling their best.
