Make this Season the Best for Foot Health!

Your feet never have a day off; it’s important to take proper care of them, especially during the winter time.  Whether it’s from exercise, chores, or common slip and fall accidents, the winter poses a lot of obstacles for those trying to maintain their foot health.

  • Change your socks – foot sweat is nothing we’re not used to.  However, the damper and more moist the environment, the higher the chance is of getting fungal infections.  This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t wear warm socks, but you should immediately change them as soon as you have the opportunity, especially if you’re more prone to having sweaty feet.

  • Watch for ice – cold weather brings the risk of slip and fall accidents due to ice. If you are running through the snow and ice, take smaller strides so you will be less likely to fall.  If you’re running as an exercise or simply walking to work, try and be aware whether or not your route will be snowy or icy. If it is, try finding a detour so that you won’t risk getting hurt.

  • Wear the right shoes – one of the biggest causes of slip and fall accidents occur from not wearing the proper footwear. Wearing low-heeled boots or shoes with traction soles on the bottom allow the proper reinforcement you need for icy surfaces.
